People affected by cancer invited to help develop new telephone support line

People affected by cancer in Wandsworth are being invited to an event at St George's Hospital on Wednesday 20 June to help develop a new telephone peer support line for cancer patients.

CanChat will provide emotional support and practical suggestions from someone who’s been there before and come out the other side. The service is being set up in response to feedback that the hospital has received at past listening events for people affected by cancer.

The hospital is taking guidance from Breast Cancer Care’s ‘Someone like me’ telephone service.

The listening event on 20th June will include an overview of the planned service as well as presentations from Breast Cancer Care staff involved with the 'Someone like me' service, a volunteer patient and a patient who has used a peer telephone support service.

There will then be table discussions to help those attending to shape and develop the telephone line service to make sure it meets the needs of patients as well to help clinical staff to understand how the new service can support patients.

The event will be held between 1.45pm and 4.30pm in the Hyde Park Room, 1st floor of the Lanesborough Wing at St George’s Hospital.
