GPs in Wandsworth are supporting Health Information Week 2016
To be the best you can be, you need to understand yourself and your health. So, get yourself some good health advice this summer.
The TV, radio, newspaper, magazines, Internet, celebrities and family/friends all provide plenty of health information. A survey[i] of young people aged 11-19 years reveals that over half of children and young people today get their health advice from school/teachers and parents, and just under half turn to the Internet (47%) for advice. For nearly one in four (24%) friends play a key advisory role.
But do these sources always offer the best possible health advice?
Health Information Week, which takes place between July 4-10, is an annual campaign involving Wandsworth which encourages families, schools, workplaces and other organisations to spread the word about the best sources of good quality healthcare advice and to promote a healthy community.
Dr Nicola Jones, Chair of NHS Wandsworth Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: "Everyone who works in health care, or any caring role, whether employed or voluntary, all have a responsibility to signpost people to the best quality information, and this week is a good time to step up that effort."
Fairs, health promotions, displays, competitions and newsletters are all great ways to help signpost people in Wandsworth to the best health information and advice available locally.
