There are currently 800,000 people with dementia in the UK, and it is predicted that over a million people will have the condition by 2021. Life After Diagnosis: Living Well With Dementia seeks to offer practical advice to those who have dementia and anyone providing care to a person with dementia.
Talks will be given by both clinical staff on services and support available as well as from an individual and carer sharing their experiences of life after diagnosis.
GP Clinical Lead for Dementia for Wandsworth, Dr Aryan Lawe, says: “Dementia care is a priority for everyone -with an aging population we need to be able to provide quality care and support to our patients and carers to not only manage but live well with dementia. This event is a chance to show people what is available and how things are changing, as well as an opportunity for us to listen to how we can strive to improve peoples' quality of life.”
The event will also be a showcase of local services and where to find support. Alzheimers Society, Age UK, Active Wandsworth, community health services, Council services and Wandsworth Community Transport are among twenty organisations holding information stalls on the day.
